I do miss the West coast for the beautiful sunsets. We sometimes go to the beach to watch the sunrise but it's hard to pry my wife off the old sleep number and stumble out into the dark.
I do wish I could sleep past dawn! Even with the sleep number, I am the early riser, but no eastern vista. I tried to capture the full moon setting recently, but clouds on the horizon made it difficult.
In 2005 I moved to the island of Dominica with my husband (Mr. Wizard), Chester (an elderly Pug dog), and 27 boxes of books. I thought I would lounge in a hammock and read. Are you laughing yet?
Filthy lucre: here is the shameless effort to promote my book.
You could live here now! I can show you how.
Yes, you can afford to move to the Caribbean! Dominica is not a touristy "McIsland", and it is certainly not for everyone, but it may be the perfect spot for you. If you are looking for a simpler life near to nature where you eat fresh foods and breathe fresh air away from cheesy tourist makeovers, this may be your spot. And, the lower cost of living may let you escape earlier than you thought possible!
Read what a long time expat says about my eBook:
"Congratulations on your book. I've been here for almost 10 years, and I would say that you have given an accurate, straightforward, honest, and fair presentation of "how it is here" , without overembellishing the good and not sugar coating the bad. Bravo!" --B.S.
"I have been reading your blog for months and bought your e-book ages ago because I really like the way you write - it feels like we're sitting around, having a chat -easy and comfortable, but in the knowledge that you will leave with more insight than you had before. " -C.Y.
"I am very pleased with your book - it exceeded my expectations. " -S.D.
"Loved the book, thank you so much for writing it! " -D.M.
"Greetings, I have enjoyed your book enormously, thank you so much for it. I also enjoy reading your e-mail blogs, they keep me informed and amused. You are a wonderful writer. I have recently moved to Dominica and am hoping to make my home here." -P.M.
"My husband ... and I have read your book at least 3 times and have laughed and smiled at your findings (all so true) !" -R.N.
"Again I must say how much I appreciate all the information you have covered in your book. It will save so much leg work and frustrations especially as regard to all the official information that is needed." -H.T.
"VERY good book. Well balanced. Some things made me want to scream and run, most made me want to move there tomorrow..." -D and K
"I have recently purchased your e-book about retiring to Dominica, and would like to thank you for the information. Your book was informative, funny and we enjoyed reading it very much. Thank you once again for your excellent book." --S.W
"Nice job on the book by the way, you answered many questions that we had. I'm sure the information will save us a lot of money and time." --J.L.
"I bought your ebook because I'm moving to Dominica (well that's the idea). Great ebook. I wish I had bought that before I moved to Barbados last year." -P.N.
"Thank you for your book which was very informative and I appreciate your honesty. Choosing a destination to move to is always difficult and I have always been keen on Dominica. Having read your down to earth summary I have realized that I would probably not feel at home here and it is great that someone has given an honest appraisal. You have not put me off, just made me realize that this is not going to suit my character and I will look at other Islands. I would definitely visit though." --Z.E.
"The ebook has been invaluable, by the way." --S.W.
